Ljubljana - The Garden City

Ljubljana has a human scale that is rare for a capital. It is a city that listens as much as it is looked at. Walking through it camera in hand, this street photography series captures a sweetness of life that infuses every image. It is not a city of shocks, but a city of fluid transitions between nature and baroque or modernist architecture.

A natural closeness.

Contact with the city is immediate. Here, people are photographed in a kind of caring closeness. I sought to capture simple gestures: reading by the riverside, a walk under the trees, a fleeting exchange on a square. The light is often filtered by the vegetation, creating an atmosphere of urban intimacy.

The mark of detail.

I was struck by the care given to small things. A carved door, a well-placed bench, the curve of a bridge. Ljubljana reveals itself through its details more than through its grand ensembles. My photos are fragments of this peaceful everyday life, visual notes taken at the pace of a slow, contemplative walk.

In praise of slowness.

Photographing Ljubljana means accepting to be carried along by a joyful melancholy. It is a celebration of slowness and the beauty of simple things.
