Rotterdam - The Geometry of Movement
I didn't just photograph the streets of Rotterdam: I followed the lines they drew. This street photography series was born from a sensation of space and movement. Here, the city always seems to be reinventing itself. Perspectives open up, architectures respond to one another, and human silhouettes cross a setting where nothing seems permanently fixed.
Photographing space.
In Rotterdam, emptiness is fully part of the image. Between the monumental facades, the quays and the wide avenues, every human presence becomes a point of balance. I photographed in search of the encounter between bodies and structures, between the fragility of a gesture and the rigor of concrete, glass and steel.
Order and rupture.
Rotterdam is made of clean lines, but also visual accidents. Its architecture imposes a geometry that light, reflections and movement constantly disturb. In my photographs, passers-by stand out, disappear, or extend the shapes of the city. I looked for those moments when the order of the frame tips slightly and lets something unexpected appear.
Movement, always unpredictable.
This series is a tribute to a city that chose to rebuild itself without erasing its ruptures. Rotterdam offered me a more graphic and more direct photography, attentive to the way human beings inhabit an architecture larger than themselves. It reminded me that at the heart of the most rigorous lines, movement always remains unpredictable.
